Focus and Scope

The Journal of Military Studies (JMS) is a peer-reviewed multidisciplinary journal publishing original research articles in selected areas of military studies. Distinguishing from most other peer-reviewed journals, JMS’s approach is more military oriented focusing on technology management and exploitation, technological choices and requirements, tactical considerations etc. giving support to Battle Field Analysts as well as Academic Officer Education.

The main areas of interest are:

- military technology, understood as in officer studies, not as an engineering topic,

- operational art and tactics,

- capabilities e.g. defence inventory and acquisition and manpower,

- military medical sciences, e.g. in military specific injuries.

The journal publishes articles also from the following areas of military studies:

- military strategy and international politics,

- military pedagogy and behavioral sciences,

- military social sciences, like human factors,

- military leadership,

- military history,

- technical and scientific papers on military technology,

- operational analysis.

The journal publishes peer-reviewed academic-level articles, which are first published electronic form, and are printed in a series of volumes according to separate schedule.

Peer Review Process

The Author should submit the manuscripts to any Editor of his/her choice. The Editors review all submitted manuscripts initially. Manuscripts with insufficient originality, serious scientific flaws, or absence of importance of message may be rejected. The journal will not return the unaccepted manuscripts. Other manuscripts are sent to two expert reviewers without revealing the identity of the reviewers to the contributors. Within a period of three to five months the author will be informed about the reviewers’ comments and acceptance/rejection of the manuscript. After the author has made the required changes, the article will be sent back to the Editor, who will submit it to the Editor-in-Chief.

Publication Frequency

Electronic articles will be published on the WWW-site of the journal when they have been accepted.

Open Access Policy

The Journal of Military Studies (JMS) provides open access to all its articles on its Web-site. JMS is also published annually in paper format but currently no subscriptions in printed format are offered. Contact one of the Editors-in-Chief for purchasing of a printed copy of an issue of the journal.
