Language and interaction skills are an important part of academic professionalism. We will examine the interest for language courses overall, and especially students’ opinions concerning the possibilities and challenges of bilingual (Finnish-Swedish) education at the University of Vaasa. The aim of the study is to provide information which can be used when developing the university’s language education by strengthening the focus area of multilingualism and multiculturalism according to the University’s strategy. The material of the study consists of 298 answers to an electronic questionnaire. The results show that for individuals bilingual education is an asset in regional employment. At the university level the students see bilingual education as a possibility of co-operation giving a clear profile for the University.
